Green Photography

As a photographer, I not only love the beauty that surrounds me on a day-to-day basis, but I rely on photographing that beauty. For many reasons, I have a vested interested in keeping our natural surroundings at their best. Laura Sheppard Photography is committed to continually working to reduce the environmental impact of our services. Here are some of the initiatives currently in place:

I shoot digital only. This is the lowest impact form of photography, as there is no consumption, photographic processing or film development.
From time to time, equipment needs to be upgraded. Old electronics are either sold, given away to friends/charities for reuse, or recycled appropriately. I use rechargeable battery packs in all of my photographic equipment.
In the production studio, I use energy efficient lighting, recycling, composting and we make an effort to use greener cleaning choices where possible. Greener supplier choices and carbon offset programs are also used for day-to day business activities.
In addition to maintaining an environmentally conscious workspace, LSP operates as a “paper minimal” business. Photos are also digitally proofed and delivered in soft-copy to the client, eliminating paper proofing, packaging, albums and substantially cutting shipping waste. The client decides if, what, when and how their photos should be printed.

For the eco-conscious client; however, there are some simple adaptations that can be added to your package on request to make our services even greener. Simply let me know that you want a green or an eco-conscious booking and I will make some subtle adjustments to the standard service package in your Quotation and Contract, including a provision for a special donation to offset the carbon impact of the travel, electrical consumption, and shipping associated with the pre-session preparation, photography, post-production, and delivery of your photos.

The green packages above were designed for green wedding clients, but can be applied to any LSP service – so you can not only have a greener wedding, you can have a greener anniversary, portrait shoot, baby picture, graduation session…the possibilities are endless. Commercial clients can also request that their custom service packages include with either of the above green options.
